Springer Nature "Read & Publish" Agreement

Dear Users,

Within the scope of the EKUAL Project conducted by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, there is access to more than 2,300 electronic journals from Springer Nature. The existing 2022-2024 Springer Nature agreement with an access (Read) arrangement has been converted to a "Read & Publish" model starting from January 1, 2024, for the 2024-2026 period.

Under this second national-level "open access article publishing agreement," all EKUAL member institutions in Turkey will continue to have access to over 2,300 e-journals from Springer Nature. Additionally, EKUAL member authors will be eligible for Article Processing Charge (APC) support for "Original Article," "Review Article," and "Continuing Education" types published in Q1 and Q2 Springer Nature Hybrid Journals listed in Web of Science (SCI, SSCI, AHCI), provided that the corresponding author is an EKUAL member. Upon request by the author, accepted publications exclusively submitted to and accepted by Springer Nature hybrid journals can be published as open access without APC.

There is an annual quota for publishing AE (open access) articles under this agreement. If the annual AE article publishing quota is exhausted, the author of the respective publication will need to pay the APC fee themselves or through their fund manager if they wish to publish their article as AE.

According to the terms of the agreement, there will be no distribution of AE article quotas for institutions. For publications in these journals, ULAKBİM will seek approval for AE publication of eligible articles based on the order of submission and availability of quota if the corresponding author desires.

The list of journals eligible for AE article publishing support (current as of January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024) is attached. The 1st Quarter/2nd Quarter list to be published in JCR on July 1, 2024, will be valid until December 31, 2025.

For journals with increasing article groups and types eligible for AE support, it is sufficient for the corresponding author (the responsible author) to be an employee of an EKUAL member institution and to have the institution's name recorded under the authorship in the publication.

Key Points for Authors:

  • The researcher must be the corresponding author of the article.
  • Article types covered by the agreement: Original Paper, Review Paper, Continuing Education.
  • After acceptance for publication, researchers must identify themselves in the author identification process. During this process, it is crucial for researchers to be primarily affiliated with the selected institution.

NOTE: When submitting articles, using institutional emails is important for smooth processing of AE approvals.
