National Library of Ukraine named after VI Vernadsky initiated and began the creation of an integrated resource "ELECTRONIC LIBRARY" UKRAINE " - a consolidated bibliographic and electronic resource of all documentary heritage of Ukraine with the organization of access to scientific reference, bibliographic and textual resources, representation of possible originals archives, research institutions in the global world network.

The aim of the project is to accumulate works in digital format in all languages, regardless of the place of publication, about the Ukrainian people, the territory of Ukraine and about all the peoples who lived or live in this territory. This will provide users of the electronic library (EB) with knowledge about Ukraine, its people, its history, traditions and culture, the developed political nation, the state formed by it; materials on the natural, geographical environment, demographic, economic, social, educational, scientific potential of Ukraine, the achievements of the Ukrainian nation, its place in world civilization.

The main tasks of the resource are:

• provide the general public with access to documents of national importance;
• provide users with a single entry point to search for different types and thematic focus of Ukrainian resources;
• collect and archive online electronic resources of Ukraine (primarily electronic versions of books and periodicals);
• to ensure the preservation of rare library and archival funds of Ukraine in electronic format;
• to create personal, thematic and problem-oriented electronic collections on the basis of EB resources;
• to popularize the Ukrainian language and culture, to distribute Ukrainian literature for Ukrainian-speaking foreign users;
• to create opportunities for the use of EB funds in research, educational processes, as well as to promote the image of Ukraine in the world.

Fundamental in the organization of EB resources is the introduction of a unified system of knowledge organization based on scientific reference and search apparatus. The basic concepts of the presented field of knowledge are accompanied by iconographic and reference-encyclopedic information, which allows to determine for each resource its thematic, territorial, temporal and intellectual attributes. All this creates conditions for researchers to effectively search for sources of scientific information.

The main sources of replenishment of the EB are electronic resources of the NBUV, freely available online electronic resources, Ukrainian studies sites and web resources of scientific institutions and cultural institutions, digitized publications from the funds of the NBUV. Internet resources are included in a single search engine EB together with other electronic documentary information sources.

According to Art. 22 of the Law of Ukraine "On Copyright and Related Rights" of 23.12.1993 № 3792-XII information resources of the electronic library "Ukrainika" are placed for use for educational and scientific non-commercial purposes, subject to mandatory indication of authorship, without the right of further repetition reproduction of full texts of documents.
